In order to do standup comedy you will initially need a drive. If you were always the one cracking jokes the most around your family and friends, and have at all times had the thought of doing standup comedy shows, then you may want to do standup comedy or the so called sketch comedy. Standup comedy is very tough at first. You may be amusing, but if you don't say it the correct way you and not in timing you may not succeed in comedy acts.
-The very first thing to do is to watch as much standup comedy as you can. Watching old and existing sketch comedy, standup comedy, comedy videos, comedy movie, live comedy, comedy acts and reading comic comedy will significantly augment your standup comedy skill. Anything goes in this area, so the best technique when starting to write standup comedy is to prefer a comedian you like, and create opening statements, and changeover the way they do. Some stand up comedians just say a joke after a joke followed by another joke with no transitions so critically anything goes.
-Take comedy classes at your local theater to help get new comedy ideas, and get help you get at ease with public speaking. Write stand up material that takes anywhere from 3-5 minutes to read out loud. Practice the stand up out loud with all the actions you plan to use in your room confidentially. Give your 100% during practice as you don't want to get on stage, and execute the way you lackadaisically did in your room.
Performing live comedy is the lone way to get better, and see people their real reactions to your jokes. If you don't have a fellow in the crowd to take note of when laughs occurred, just put a tape recorder in your pocket before you go on stage and perform. Over time you will become a habitual in the local venues, and if you’re good enough you will get a full-length show time at the comedy venue. Ask venue owners for comedy agent contact information as you become known.
